They are hardy and easy to keep fish. However, they are more active and colorful with clean water & frequent water changes.

They benefit from fresh meat such as brine & mysid shrimp, daphnia, etc. You would probably be unwise to keep them without at least 25% raw feed in their diet. They like a high protein or average protein high quality flake feed. They tend to be carnivore orientated omnivores. A high quality diet and not being exposed to hunger is more important for them than for most other fish.
